A little about me

I’m Terra Janot, a practicing counsellor with a university degree in counselling, and more than 14 years experience. Today my practice focuses solely on remote counselling, which gives me the flexibility to meet with people across Canada, while balancing my responsibilities as a mom and partner.

My counselling approach is very ‘conversational’ in style. I’m a talker, you bet.. But I also desire to listen. Deeply. The soul has an ability to talk in ways that isn’t always with words. If you crave empathy and encouragement and a desire to reconnect with a feeling of inner empowerment, then yes this is going to be a good fit. But it won’t always be easy, as I work to provide gentle challenges when appropriate.

Terra Janot, Counsellor, Cedarwood Counselling & Wellness

My approach to counselling takes into consideration four dimensions of life: the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions. Each aspect of our life comes with it’s own wants, wishes and desires. I work with clients to consider each dimension in it’s own right, and consider how these aspects work together (ideally to create harmony and wellness within).

I believe that a big part of finding balance in life is about taking time to explore and unpack triggers and challenges found in everyday life. When we learn how to hold space for ourselves with open curiosity, we gain the ability to tease apart and acknowledge stuck emotions, unhelpful thoughts patterns, and address toxic behaviours we might be stuck in. Change becomes possible with self-understanding as this is the doorway to wisdom.

Now, who better to teach us about who we are then God Himself. However, I know that not everyone sees themselves as religious or even spiritual for that matter. I know that not everyone wants a spiritual approach to therapy. That’s ok! In counselling I can work with a wide variety of approaches both secular (non-religious) and religious/ spiritual in nature.

Through my education I have obtained a Bachelor Degree in Addictions Counselling (2009) and a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology (2016). I am registered with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association as a Certified Canadian Counsellor.
